Calibration and verification activities are covered by a calibration certificate or verification report issued by the NML, guaranteeing traceability of the equipment to the International System of Units (SI).
Understanding metrology
What is metrology?
Metrology is the science of measurement. It guarantees the quality of measurement results and instills confidence in the performance of calibrated and regularly verified instruments. It is divided into three main fields:
Scientific metrology (fundamental)
It deals with the organization and development of measurement standards (SI units) and their maintenance. It covers specialized fields such as mass, volume, temperature and chemical metrology. It represents the highest level of precision in each field, and is the foundation of legal and industrial metrology.
Industrial metrology
It concerns the application of measurement science to manufacturing and other industrial processes. It guarantees the suitability of measuring instruments, their regular calibration and the quality control of measurements in production and service activities.
Legal metrology
It concerns the regulatory requirements imposed on measurements and measuring instruments for the protection of public health, safety, the environment and consumers. It is also the reference framework for taxation and fair trade.
Metrology in Haiti
The national metrology system helps to reduce technical barriers to trade and build confidence in measurement capabilities at all levels of the value chain.

Responsible for administrative and technical activities in scientific and industrial metrology, through the LNM.
